Watford have confirmed that manager Quique Sanchez Flores will leave his position at the end of the season despite the Spaniard achieving Premier League survival this term.
Sportsmail revealed last month that the 51-year-old was in a danger of the axe with the club's board, including owner Gino Pozzo, looking at the possibility of an alternative European manager.
Sanchez Flores' future at Vicarage Road had been thrown into doubt, despite him overseeing a season in which his newly-promoted side comfortably avoided the drop and reached an FA Cup semi-final.
The Premier League club made the announcement on Friday ahead of their final match of the season where they host Sunderland.
A statement, released on the club's website, said: 'Watford can confirm that Quique Sanchez Flores will leave Vicarage Road at the end of the season following the Sunderland game this weekend.
'We would like to thank Quique. He and the team achieved the target set them at the start of the season of staying in the Premier League for a second year.
'Quique leaves with all our best wishes for the future and the knowledge he is always welcome at Vicarage Road.'
