As far as sights and sounds go, Africa boasts its fair share of some of the most incredible spots on earth.
With an untouched quality to its vegetation and wildlife, the continent's expansive landscape and vibrant culture are often a point of interest around the world.
That said, there are several truly breathtaking sights in Africa everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.
Check them out.
-
The Great Migration, Tanzania: This is the annual movement of millions of wildebeests from the Serengeti Plains in Tanzania towards the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya in search of food and water. What is most interesting about this movement, however (apart from watching millions of animals race through the jungle), is the crocodiles that lie in wait for the animals at the river.
- Tabletop Mountain, South Africa: Unarguably one of the most breathtaking sights in Africa, there are cable cars available to take tourists to the top of the mountain located at Cape Town, for an even more spectacular view.
-
Djmaa el Fna, Morocco: Looking for a scene that looks straight out of 'Alibaba and the forty thieves'? Then take a trip to Djmaa el Fna. Located in the heart of Marrakech, this exotic location offers snake charmers, story-tellers, henna-painters and a host of other offerings, all in one place.
- Sossusvlei Dunes, Namibia: Get a glimpse of sand dunes which have collected over millions of years as a result of material flowing from the Orange River into the Atlantic.
- Victoria Falls, Zambia and Zimbabwe: A sight of the most spectacular Victoria Falls is not to be missed.
- Sahara Dunes, Morocco: For a feel of the Sahara desert without the attendant risks, make the journey from this end and trek with Berbers from the town of Zagoura, or camp out in Tazzarine where the annual Marathon des Sables holds every year.
- Pyramids of Giza, Egypt: The world famous pyramids of Egypt remain one of the wonders of the world and a major attraction in Africa.
- Nyika Plateau National Park, Malawi: This park has one of the highest densities of leopards in Central Africa. It's numerous rivers and general layout also makes for a beautiful site.
-
Draa Valley, Morocco: Located between the Atlas Mountains and the dunes of the Sahara, this mass of date plantations offers an interesting sight with hotels and restaurants in the area to boot.
- Wonders of the Nile, Egypt: Looking for romantic getaway, a cruise down the River Nile while admiring the ancient Egyptian relics like the Valley of the Kings andKom Ombo Temple is an eye-opening experience.
